I am so guilty of forgetting the you tube audience, mainly because of the above comments! Awful community. I gave up on it years ago due to the pitiful level of people in there..You can't make an impact at all and it’s very hard to speak to someone who isn’t a troll/ someone desperate to put you down online as they certainly couldn't off. Also with the adverts, upon adverts upon adverts, I have completely fallen out of love with youtube...I used to never be off it but now due to the fact that it takes several minutes and searches find a video without a 2 minute advert at the start, I have just given up on it full stop..This my main evidence to support my theory that facebook will eat itself too. Chasing after the money too much and not looking after the initial concept enough. Eventually your audience gets bored and somewhere else offers a new alternative, like the fall of myspace before it..

Thanks Barrett. It begs the question of whether YouTube is ever going to be useful for more serious work doesn't it? Or if it is, whether comments will increasingly be blocked to avoid the frequent trolling. I'm sure that's not something YouTube would want, but it's hard to see how they can put the cat back in the bag now.

Adi, glad to have found your blog. Interesting topic. Never thought about this before, but I've learned not to take YouTube seriously, especially on serious subjects. For funny, trivial or otherwise entertaining content, some of the conversation is fine. But I wouldn't expect to find serious discourse on a platform known for Jackass videos and silly cat movies. I agree, YouTube is a great place to host your video on most topics, but as far as the community aspect... low expectations are best.
