The importance of sleep

gadgetsbedroomWe live in an age of rampant self improvement.  People increasingly monitor themselves in the hope that they can unearth ways to improve in some way.  Yet, despite this, we often perform horribly at a task we spend over 1/3 of our lives doing.

A good nights sleep is something that has well documented impact on our ability to function properly during the day, yet statistics show that we’re not getting anywhere near enough of it.

You might be wondering what this has to do with social business?  Well research suggests we’re increasingly wired in to our work, with various mobile devices allowing us to do things whenever and wherever.  In terms of flexibility, that should be great, but of course the reality is that most of us simply end up doing more rather than varying the time we work.

Nowhere is this more visible than in the bedroom, where an array have electrical devices have crept in, with their gently glowing screens tempting us to check emails just once more before bed.  All of which conspires to disrupt our sleep, which in turn hampers our ability to perform to our best.

Suffice to say, I think social business is great, but I urge you to set some clear boundaries, with the bedroom door one of them.  Here’s to a good nights sleep.
