Join the mile high club the ‘meet and seat’ way

For those that haven't heard, Meet and Seat is a new service by airline KLM.  It lets you see the Facebook or LinkedIn profiles of other passengers on your flight and meet them either before the flight or during the flight itself.  It's being branded as a great way of improving your networking.  I wonder how long before people start using it as a means of hooking up though?

Check out the video below and give me your thoughts.

Would you use this service?  How would you feel about having your social profiles available to anyone sharing a flight with you?

  1. I really hope this is opt in. I sure wouldn't want lots of strangers being able to see my social media profiles and then deciding to sit next to me. No thank you very much.

  2. Good god no. I really can't think of anything worse than being on a long flight and being sat next to someone that wants to talk to me.

  3. Considering that every time I’ve flown KLM, they've apparently assigned people seats at random (thus, for example, breaking up families of five with small children into five different rows) I feel like this is energy invested in exactly the wrong end of the process. I’m also wondering how long before a young woman ends up seated next to a stalker for a flight across the Atlantic—and what damage that will cause to her, the people around them, and KLM’s press image.

  4. As long as it's opt in I don't see a problem with it. I mean if you want to network on your trip, you can do. If you don't, you opt out. Seems kinda obvious to me. For me it's not something I'd want to do as I tend to cherish the free time on these trips for reading or sleeping. The peace and quiet is something I cherish.

    • Kinda how I see it as well Nick. I don\’t fly much for business use so maybe it\’d be different in those kind of instances. As long as it\’s opt-in I can\’t really see the harm.
