How many community managers check in on Christmas Day?

So Christmas day is winding down here in the UK.  I posed a question on LinkedIn a few weeks ago asking community managers whether they would be checking their communities on Christmas Day.  Interestingly 80% responded that they would be checking in.

  1. I really try and leave the computer off on Christmas Day. It's one day of the year when it isn't required, and certainly not for work!

    • That's fair enough. I'm still in the handover in my new job so don't really have a community to look after at the moment, so yesterday was a quiet one in terms of the web. Had a lovely ride in the morning 🙂

  2. I logged in to make sure everything was ok and wish the community a merry Xmas. I figure that there are plenty of quiet/boring bits on Christmas day when family members are a pain or fallen asleep etc. to sneak online and check in. I mean lots of people shop online on Christmas day now so I don't really see it as any different.

  3. I'm surprised it was so low. I'd have thought all community managers would have spent a few minutes wishing their community a happy Christmas. Doesn't take long does it?

    • Yes it is an easy win and I think it is far more normal to go online on Christmas day now than it was maybe a few years ago, especially with so many retailers beginning their sales on Christmas day.
